The English College in Prague (ECP) is a prestigious, independent international grammar school offering a British-style education in Prague, while still being part of the Czech educational system. It provides a rigorous academic curriculum alongside a supportive and enriching environment for students aged 12-19.
ECP offers a distinctive British education system, including internationally recognised qualifications most notably the International Baccalaureate IB. Our school starts with good relationships and from that builds a strong emphasis on critical thinking, creativity and independent learning, preparing students for success both academically and personally. ECP also offers the Czech State leaving exam – Maturita exam to all students who study a Czech programme.
Admission to ECP is based on academic merit, English language proficiency and personal qualities such as curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute to the school community. Prospective students are required to sit entrance exams and attend an in-person interview as part of the admissions process.
Education at ECP offers an International academic programme culminating in the IB Diploma, which is fully recognised around the world and prepares students for success both in the Czech Republic and abroad. We also offer the Czech Maturita qualification which of course meets the requirements of Czech universities. Our wide range of curriculum options and individual approach provide students with flexibility and the ability to tailor their education to their future goals and aspirations in any country in the world.
ECP provides a wide range of extracurricular activities to complement the academic curriculum called the :more programme. It uses real life experience as a teaching tool in order to help students to develop as the whole person and to understand the world around them in broader perspectives. :more activities include sports, arts, music, drama, trips, lectures, community service initiatives and more. Students have the opportunity to explore their interests, develop talents and new skills and engage in leadership opportunities outside the classroom.
The safety and well-being of our students are paramount at ECP. We have robust safeguarding policies and procedures in place, as well as dedicated pastoral care and counselling services to support students’ physical, emotional and mental health needs. Our staff are trained to recognise and respond to any concerns or issues that may arise. We have well-established processes for helping families get help beyond the school’s remit by connecting with local agencies and experts. The supportive environment is also reflected in our students’ active involvement in the whole process. They are led to help and support each other and encouraged to come up with suggestions for improvements.
ECP offers comprehensive university guidance and support to help students navigate the university application process. From personalised counseling sessions and work experience to workshops on writing personal statements and preparing for admissions exams, our experienced staff are dedicated to helping students achieve their higher education goals.
Yes, parents are encouraged to play an active role in the ECP community. We value the partnership between home and school and offer various opportunities for parents to engage, including parent-teacher meetings, twice-termly regular parent association meetings and participation in school events and the School Council.
The tuition fees at ECP vary depending on factors such as the student’s year group and any applicable discounts or scholarships. We are committed to ensuring that our high-quality education remains accessible to students from diverse backgrounds and we strive to provide transparency regarding all financial matters related to attending ECP.
ECP is committed to providing access to education for talented and motivated students, regardless of their financial circumstances. Limited scholarships and financial assistance may be available to eligible students based on demonstrated need and academic merit.
