Nicolas Hill,
Director of Upper School; History
Upper School Universities, Careers & Academic Enrichment Manager; Head of History Nicolas is originally from Norfolk, England. He first got a taste for teaching in his gap year where he spent a year teaching English at a Hungarian State gymnazium. After graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Politics and History and a GDL in Law, Nicolas spent a brief period working as a press officer for the Economic and Social Research Council, and an NGO in Spain and Nicaragua, before embarking upon a career in business. During this time, he spent four years setting up and then running an international trading company in Malaysia as Chief Operating Officer. However, after spending two years lecturing in Business and English at the University of Tokyo, he returned to the UK to complete a PGCE at the University of Bath. He also has a Master’s degree in History and Education from the University of Cambridge.
Nicolas has taught History in two UK schools, but ultimately, the attraction of Central Europe pulled him back and he has taught at the ECP for the last seven years, first as Head of History and Head of Year 6, and he is now also responsible for Upper School Universities, Careers & Academic Enrichment. He is also a team leader for the IBO examination board and an examiner for IB History, the Extended Essay and Edexcel GCSE History. In his spare time, he is an avid reader of History, and keeps trying to add to the list of the 42 countries he has travelled to.
